Rijeka is essentially Zagreb by the sea. A lovely town.

And like Zagreb has Samobor as a nearby weekend retreat, Rijeka has Opatija which is probably the nicest place on the Adriatic.

>Krakow at times looks more similar to some coastal Croatian cities than to Zagreb.
i mean, some streets in the Kraków's old town from the rennaissance era were designed by Italians so obviously there could be some resemblance to Italian-built cities on the Adriatic coast, but generally 19th century part of Kraków looks very much like the same part of Zagreb. I wouldn't be surprised if the same Viennese architects designed some of the buildings.

My favorite seaside "Kvarner" town is Mali Lošinj. I said "Kvarner" because it's way too south from the actual bay and close to the open Adriatic far from the Croatian mainland but that's one of its charms. Also it's the biggest island town in Croatia, super clean and modern while preserving traditional buildings. They still have a functioning shipyard.

There‘s plenty to do, especially in the summer. Film festivals, music and dancing in the parks, classical music in old courtyards, etc.

Depends what you‘re into.

And as >>214750992 noted, there‘s picrel which has a ton of interesting places, a medival fort, mines, paintball in the old sanatorium, a bar at the top of the radio tower, numerous mountain lodges with restaurants, a shitton of trails with freshwater springs you can drink from.

You can also ski in the winter and theres a cable car that takes you to and fro the top.

Nothing, really. It's a destination for Zagreb people who want to feel like they went travelling without actually travelling. You drive 30 minutes to take a short stroll through the town square, eat a supposedly famous kremšnita that isn't even that good and is usually served hot instead of cooled for some reason and you call it day.

what's weird about Zagreb is how far away the old town is from the Sava
generally old medieval towns were located just on the river, with the river dividing them into two parts
meanwhile it looks like there was a lot of empty space between the Upper City and the river historically and it was only annexed into the city like in the 1960s, judging by the buildings that are there.

Fun fact, the chandeliers are from a Vegas Casino. Afaik the cathedral needed new ones and some Croat who was a manager in Vegas asked them if they‘d like these.

Not just Eastern, most typical Kajkavian dialects in North Croatia have a lot of features shared with West Slavic (Czech and Slovak), many of which even Standard Slovene doesn't have. The problem with Kajkavian is the bad classification of dialects in Croatia, basically every speech that uses "kaj" is considered Kajkavian, from speeches which are just standard SC to dialects that are Slovenian/ Alpine Slavic are all placed under the Kajkavian umbrella in Croatia.
