This happens monthly and is often on the news, but since we live in a democracy this doesn't happen to inspectors only but to all Italians and of course tourists too.

Wait are public amenities meant to turn a profit?? This isn't a rhetorical question and I'm not making a dig at your cuntree because mine doesn't really have a functional public transportation system, but this school of thought is new to me. I thought public amenities were tax funded with paid tickets/subscriptions meant to fund maintenance or eventual upgrade of lines/buses etc, i never knew they were supposed to make money. Wut? Is it 1940? We use a card (preloaded cash card or debit card or credit card), tap it on the turnstile, and get on the train. We tap it again when exiting the destination station. No one who didn't pay can get into the station, much less the train. There's cops at the turnstiles too.

That system is expensive and makes sense only in low trust countries where you have to ensure that every ticket is checked. Here there is no need for that because if a ticket is needed, then 99% of people will have it. And if someone forgets to buy it, he will honestly report himself to the inspector and pay the fine (that's what inspectors are for in high trust countries).

that system is not expensive, if anything its more convinient and cheaper, because the railroad staff working at the station can also double as the "inspectors" who make sure no gypsy jumps over the gates. the only cost I can think of is maintenance, but they are not expensive to operate at all. in a true high-trust society no staff is present on the trains except for the cleaners and the train conductor, but migration pretty much killed this concept

There is no inspector here and transportation is free for locals, they don't bother to check whether visitors paid or not. I have a resident transport card but after a while I stopped even scanning it. It's free paid for by everyone's (not me) taxes.
