Israel is constantly scrutinized in a way that few other countries ever are. Take a look at recent history: Yemen has been suffering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises for years, with widespread famine, mass civilian deaths from airstrikes and a collapsed health system, yet it rarely dominates international outrage or protests the way Israel does. Sudan has gone through multiple genocides and civil wars, with hundreds of thousands killed or displaced, yet it is never the centerpiece of campus rallies or international boycotts. China has interned over a million Uyghur Muslims in camps. Syria’s Assad regime has killed hundreds of thousands of its own citizens, even using chemical weapons.
And yet, Israel, a democracy of less than 10 million people facing constant security threats, is singled out disproportionately. That does not mean Israel is above criticism, but the obsessive focus and double standards compared to far larger, deadlier conflicts shows the bias. The fact that Israel is uniquely treated as the embodiment of evil, while far worse atrocities are ignored, says more about global prejudice than about Israel itself
