कहाँ is an apic (adverbial pronoun of interogatovagative classification)
Exemple of use : तुम कहाँ जा रहे हो?
1. Your target language
2. At which vocabulary size were you able to understand most texts?
There is a point in language learning where the need for vocab practice ceases to be and you're able to learn most words from context. I wanna know where that point is.

I remember taking linguistics in college. I hadn't even gotten past X bar theory when I realized absolutely no one gives a shit about any of it. Like, I signed up for this thinking I'd learn tons of languages, not whole books worth of jargon.
By the way, here's a thought that crossed my mind recently. Supposedly, Noam Chomsky came up with the phrase "colorless green ideas sleep furiously" as a phrase that is semantically nonsensical. I know this is beside the point he was making, but in a world where meanings are subjective, is there any such thing as semantic nonsense? In this case, "colorless" could be taken to mean bland or lacking in flair. "Green" could mean environmentally conscious. An "idea" could be a policy proposal. "Sleep" could mean being idle or inactive. "Furiously" could mean invoking fury rather than having it. So "colorless green ideas sleep furiously" could mean "the familiar and banal proposals for new environmental policy remain stuck in committee, despite the frustration of supporters".
Similarly, my professor said "I saw John's the dog" as an example of a syntactically incorrect sentence. "This is not English", he said. But I wonder, what if someone named John had one of those gay The Dog toys from the early 2000s. Or maybe there's a hidden conjunction in there, as often happens in English, i.e. "I saw [that] John's the dog". I guess that doesn't mean syntax is wrong or anything, he just needed a better example.

What language though? I can only give you an abstract roadmap.
>Memorize words (Anki, paper flashcards, Goldlist method etc.)
>Read and listen to material that's at your level (at your level = sentences you can understand it or you can use tools like lookups/translation to make them understandable)
>Avoid writing and speaking until you can express your thoughts without thinking about the form or grammar
>Immerse until the language is completely second nature

Thanks, is shadowing OK? I am trying to learn German. I hate anki and any electronic system. My idea is to finish 2 assimil books, promising up to c1, and a graded reader at b2 level. Then go full immersion using previous Goethe and other institution test material to gamify my way to a fast c1.

Assimil is a good start, but it won't get you to B2 on its own, you'll have to grind a lot more than you think and read/listen for potentially thousands of hours till you fully acquire some features of the language.
>I hate anki and any electronic system
You can try physical flashcards or the Goldlist method using a notebook. The point is to just have a review system that keeps a bunch of vocab in your short-term memory so that you can recognize and acquire it in immersion more easily.
>shadowing
If you feel like it helps, sure, go for it.

>immersion using test material
Like, immersing using the content that's on exams and such? Sure, you can use it for that purpose but I don't think there's quite enough of it. The reading section is probably one or two pages max, listening is like 10-30 minutes of audio max. You're better off reading a novel or watching tv shows, movies, anime, etc. Quantity is a lot more important than quality when it comes to immersion.
>All my areas of interest are scientific
To become fully fluent, you have to cast a wide net. The grammar is not a problem, but vocabulary often is. If you read science articles all the time, you'll be familiar with all the common words in that domain but you'll be lost when someone talks about cooking or politics etc.

Thanks a lot.
DaF level 4,Goethe c1 and telc c1 are three exams that are interchangeable. And I can probably find 1000 pages worth of past papers from them. My friend got a b2 certificate for Erasmus in 4 months and all he did was a single assimil book for 3 months and one month of studying past papers day and night.
I barely got a c1 on my IELTS exam despite years of immersion, simply because I never use any advanced grammar. Online vocab tests estimate my vocab size at 15k word families and everyone assumes I am from the States whenever I speak. In comparison I know a guy who got a c2 certificate despite sounding like super Mario unironically, because he deliberately used structures like "If I had had a dog last year, I would have bought him a toy" and other structures that no one actually uses.
Meanwhile there are native speakers who say stuff like "oxes", "could of done it" and "less mistakes".
So for German I will focus more on test material.

The percentages don't really reflect just how well you understand a text. Sometimes not knowing a single word can make an entire sentence incomprehensible.
For most languages you can easily learn with graded readers the moment you know a few hundred words.

it doesn't help that those percentage are inflated even for spoken register. I think this graph is closer to reality. Imo meaning of nouns are easier to infer from context, while adjectives and adverbs are slightly less important for comprehension. Which means learners should focus on verbs.

Generally you can do a textbook like colloquial or teach yourself, which will get you to about a A2 level normally. Language specific textbooks like Genki are more ideal. Textbooks tend to give a good foundation to build upon.
If your language has some sort of proficiency test, you can use this as both a study plan and a goal to aim towards. In my experience, resources for languages with tests are really easy to find.
If you don't want to do textbooks, you can just anki, read about grammar when you need it and just consume a lot of media targeted towards the age group of your ability. This seems to work for some people. Learning in context will get you pretty far.

if you mean because there isn't much content dubbed into danish then you're right, since shows/movies tend to stop being dubbed if they're for an audience older than like 15. there's still some good stuff though, like dbz, avatar, harry potter, etc.
if you mean because it is hard to actually get access to the danish dubbing of shows then yes that can be a bitch. a vpn usually works fine for netflix/disney plus, but there was a long time where danish dubbed dbz wasn't available anywhere.

yes, just look up subjects you're interested in in Spanish. for me, it's booktube, there's always a lot of vlogs to find there, but could be anything
or if the content aimed at natives is still too intermediate/advanced, here are a few I know aimed at learners
https://www.youtube.com/@EasySpanish
https://www.youtube.com/@DreamingSpanish
https://www.youtube.com/@spanishafterhours
https://www.youtube.com/@holamydailyspanish
What's /lang/'s opinion on intermediary conlangs?
Idk how they are "officially" called, but let's say someone is an English speaker and wants to learn Spanish, then a mix of English-Spanish conlang is made, would that help them learn Spanish faster or would the added layer only make the experience worse?
I'm a Portuguese speaker and I'm considering learning something like Esperanto or Interlingua as an intermediary of all romance languages, since I want to eventually learn all of them

hsk 7 8 and 9 aexist so people have the level needed for academic articles. level 9 is specifically for academia.
there are 100,000 hanzi/words from combo of hanzi so hsk6 doesn't give you anything near 95% fluency "of everything".
do you know tibia and fibula and a carburetor in hsk 6? such things are within 95% of everyday english. chinese people know more than 5k words and still struggle with chinese.
