It's what you get for being traumatized by the literal horrors of war ravaging your home town and every single village around you. Pre-war European culture, especially what little had remained unscathed after the end of WWI, had to be forcibly changed for the sake of adapting to the utterly barren landscape that was Europe in 1945. No longer could people sing folk music, dress up in folk costumes, or use local dialect words without feeling guilty for the shooting of people with the aim of defending them.
Now people could only side with either the great economic ideologies of capitalism and communism.
But once the Cold War was officially over in 1991, even that choice too disappeared, leaving only capitalism and liberalism as a choice. Europeans had none of the enshrined liberties of Americans, such as freedom of speech (due to their lèse-majesté and anti-hate speech laws), the right to bear arms, and the right to avoid self-incrimination, but at least they could consume products freely and express themselves within the boundaries of their countries' bureacratic structures, so they ended up with these eunuch-like forms of self-expression and identification.

this is true but the reason was more simple than that. the Soviets were heavily funding communist groups all across the NATOsphere euro countries and so, instead of directly shutting those groups down, the CIA/MI6/other intel agencies infiltrated them and filled them with garbage social issues/concerns that both made them unserious but also ineffective
