Why doesn't india make any animated movies or tv shows?

surely since they have low income and a large technical population they should easily be able to compete in the animation market right?? it isn't exactly intellectually rigorous or complex work its just hard work

Just to clarify: I mean GOOD animated movies/ tv shows

I am super tapped into indie animation / the animation industry in general. I've watched shit like "The Glass Worker" out of Pakistan.

I think I would've heard if you guys have produced anything worth watching.

If you have any recommendations I'll check them out but I don't think you guys have ever made anything even close to the glass worker in quality.

The only halfway decent one I've seen from India is Arjun the Warrior Prince

Although it greatly simplified the complex story of the Mahabharata.

It would be cool to see them make one with their own artstyle (like Japan has Anime). Thre is kind of a distintive Indian illustration style e.g. picrel.

But as can you see>>215027426 modern India has lost all sense of aesthetic and storytelling. *That* looks good to them.

Good effort but too derivative of Ghibli.

well you have to imitate before you can start to innovate. now they have a factory that can pump out ghibli productions, its far easier to get a good story than it is to get the technical skill to make an animated movie

I just wonder why india isn't trying at all

back in the 1900's they used to make animations like that. there's this egyption one from the 80's thats super cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuaXXhuZdVk or this mexican one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8n5UqApxgY

I think it'd be awesome if people went back to making them
