Would you move away from your family and friends for a semi-prestigious, higher paying job? I'm in that situation right now - I would have to move 2.5 hours away via car. Never lived alone either. Curious to see if answers differ by country btw

I moved to China for a year for a woman. I didn’t like being so far from my family and friends.

Not broke but I my current job is about to get outsourced and was given a 2 week notice. I very likely will be receiving an offer at the headquarters of the largest corporation in my state

I am more introverted and anti-social but I have never lived alone and don't like the idea of having no one else to rely on. Like when my car broke down on some random street, it was my family who came to pick me up and so on

I kind of feel like this too. It's not a crazy distance.... and 18-year-olds do it for college all the time.

>>215063914
I have mixed feelings about my family. More positive as a kid and increasingly negative after becoming an adult -- namely what happened after my father died.

>>215063935
What other metric would I use? Feel like that's the best way to describe the distance -- how long it would take me to see them

Yes, its a new experience.
I've lived in abroad on the otehr side of the world alone, and prior to that I had never traveled to a different country or lived outside my parents home.
Nowadays you can facetime if you are feeling lonely

Was it scary for you at first? And did it change you in any way, i.e., did you come out more confident, independent, etc?

I don't have friends and hate my family, so yes, in a heartbeat. I guess my answer doesn't help you much. Would you have enough spare time to visit your friends and family? 2,5 hours by car isn't that much, you could easily do a weekend here and there. Would the job help you grow your career in a direction where you could move back in a few years in an even higher position? Living by yourself is scary at first, but at one point you'll likely have to anyway, so maybe it's better to take the plunge when you're still young? Scary things generally don't become easier as you get older.

What did her family think of her marrying a westerner?
Anonymous United Kingdom No.215065243 [Report]
>>215065129

Her family fully support our marriage and help us financially as her dad owns a business. At first her mum had some reservations but when they actually met me in person those reservations went away. Also her mum said that she'd give me a chance because she thought I was white and handsome. Our parents have met each other many times and my grandmother has even been to China several times and our grandmothers have met.

Well, yes. My situation is basically: my current job is being terminated due to outsourcing. I was in contact with a corporation to join their corporate tax team. It's a semi-prestigious gig where I would make 40% more than my current role. And I'm in kind of a shitty situation where the job opportunities are limited in my area and I do not yet have enough experience to take a high-paying remote job. I would likely learn a lot, it would add value to my resume, and I could eventually take a job in any corporate tax department after a couple of years of doing this.

I really liked living by myself at the other end of the world. Lived in China for roughly half a year recently and a year quite some time back. Also lived in Korea. It’s a chance to make new experiences and friends, but if you are very introverted you might end up lonely (or happy if you like the anonymity). Would do it definitely again, but I was never homesick (spent almost 3 years of my life abroad) and when my family wanted to see me they had to come by. Didn’t miss them really as we could videocall.

Had a similar situation. Never felt scared but I’m also never really scared. It made me way more confident as you can actually reinvent yourself. Also my interests shifted a lot, my home city now feels very small and boring. Also feel difficult to relate to people who haven’t been abroad for some time.

I did do that.
Moved from my small city I grew up in to the opposite side of the big city.
I was maybe 1.5 to 2 hours drive away.
It was the first time I lived alone.
Job paid 30% more. But rent was obviously more the closer to the city center I tried to lived.
I think if I'd worked near home I might never have moved out, so it forced me to grow up.
My family was fairly willing to drive to help me with things. My mum works part time with variable hours, and one time I had to take my car to the mechanic for a couple days and she drove the whole way to pick me up from there and have dinner with me. So maybe your family would be willing to do that sort of stuff every now and again?

On the downside, my circle of friends didn't survive the move as much as I thought it would. And I was/am a 4chan typoid so I struggled to make genuine friendships with work colleagues.
Doing rental inspections in a different city whilst being a mid-20's retard and still working my previous job was a fucking ordeal, however, though it taught me I was actually capable of far more grind than I ever realised.

I'm french, I moved here at 19 for studying.
I spent 10 days in a hotel before finding my apartment on the internet.
No friends in my hometown or in my new city so that wasn't a problem. Khhv naturally. I call my parents once a week. I go out for groceries or sometimes for hiking/camping in the mountains, I'm really not interested in clubs and shit
Living alone is quite nice, I have a big and well equipped kitchen (thanks to my parents giving me things that they don't use anymore) so I cook a lot. I do everything on Sunday for the entire week. Cleaning could be better (especially dusting) but I'm a bit lazy honestly
