Right makes might, might makes right. It wasn't "their" land, they didn't even have a written word, much less the means to cartograph and mark territory. And you can't even name who "they" were because it was 100 different squabbling tribes.
Settlers literally took uninhabited patches of clay near the coast and were immediately descended upon by savages that dismembered, enslaved, and tortured them. And this is where the bad blood began. The mortality rates in the early colonies were insane. Eventually, they got what they deserved, which was a hardened and ruthless breed of American that saw them as scum only fit for elimination and removal.
