Not our greatest accomplishment, but I visited one of the locks on the River Murray today that were built around 100 years ago. A combination of these locks and weirs raised the water level and slowed the river’s flow. Large reservoirs built upstream captured winter rain and snowmelt, allowing for widespread irrigation throughout the year. The region is now Australia's breadbasket and supports 2 million people. Irrigation is not unique to Australia, but it's the sort of nation building project I doubt we would bother with in today's individualistic society.

Russia attacked Ukraine because they tought that Ukraine's national unity and will was so weak that they wouldn't offer much resistance. As a result we're already four years in to a retarded useless meat grinder war. Russia would never have attacked if Ukraine had the national unity and shared will of Finland.
