China keeps their exports competative in large part thanks to keeping wages artificially low. They have lower avarage wages than countries like brazil for example. This is by design through constantly deflating their own currency. In the EU, manufacturing is constantly moved to the cheapest possible countries available like Romania and Bulgaria. Increasing wages too much is one of those forever issues that will never go away since they come with the caviat of maintaining a manufacturing sector. It always needs to be balanced.
The US has one of the highest avarage incomes on the planet and wishes to maintain a world reserve currency. They achieved this in large part thanks to surrendering manufacturing and going all in on finance. No one in the US wants to work at an electric oven factory for 30k a year like they do in Europe. Lets not even talk about competing with chinese prices. We're talking solar panel plants for 5k a year for them.
