It’s somewhat shocking how quickly the Jews from these regions dropped their identity as soon as they made Aliyah
If you were born and raised in a culture and centuries of your ancestors did the same you’d think they’d keep some of the traditions and some sentimentality (loyal is too strong of a word)
But no, they completely forgot about their countries and forged a new identity altogether. Ask any Israeli about Poland, Russia or Romania and they’ll look at you like you’re joking, like why woild that be relevant to their life at all? I don’t know what other examples like that exists.

These are actually not very representative of the average jew, most russians were poor peasants and serfs. Most russian jews in the east (or in the pale most appropriately) lived in their own little villages just as poor as their neighbors (which were btw majority jewish.)

the majority of Jews who survived the Holocaust were Russian Jews from territories that were owned/occupied by the USSR and they weren't Polish Jews by any means.
Yes, the Pale was established (mostly) in territories that used to be Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before but since most PLC territory wasn't inhabited by Poles (especially the eastern part), these Jews would usually acquire Russian identity

All of my grandparents were chill with the Jews, as far as I know. No antisemitic sentiment whatsoever.

I truly wish there was more common common understanding and less hatred between us (I know that "friendship" is obviously out of reach in the current political climate).

When I was in high school (2010), we actually had a meeting with the Israeli school kids - they were super chill and friendly and we simply talked about our daily lives and stuff, lot of girls told me that I have "beautiful eyes" (autistic teenage me obviously didn't take a hint).

In one of my grandparents hometown, there is an old synagogue - abandoned after WW2. It is currently owned by the Jewish community in Poland. I wish it could one day be renovated and serve as some sort of museum/memorial.

Despite the mutual distrust and accusations, there are some signs of goodwill and attempts at recontaliation, I think. I saw the movie "Real Pain" (2024) as an example of such. It was pretty good, I recommend.

I just wish Jews stared seeing Poland as part of their history and legacy, not a cesspit of antisemitism and place where Holocaust happened. Yes, there were dark chapters in our history - but think about it this way: for most of their stay here, your ancestors could live unbothered and thrive, unlike in most other countries in the world. Doesn't that really mean anything?

A sizeable Polish diaspora didn't live in Ireland for 600 years, it didn't contribute to Ireland's economic well being and culture while at the same time enjoying rights far greater than in any other European country and not granted to the majority of Irish citizens as well.
