When Jesus went to the desert, all he had to do was to fast for 40 days and tell the devil to fuck off. In retrorespect, it wasn't that bad. Some people go through harsher stuff today

christian fasts exclude nighttime allowances that islam has + a lot of extra restrictions traditionally
what it entailed is in all likelyhood eating only 1 meal a day full of bread, weeds, honey, crickets with no animal products of any kind for more than a month and then be tempted by luxuries and world dominance
not as easy as it may seem at first glance

The hard part about islamic fast is not the food but water restriction. Not being able to drink water all day especially during summer is what fucks most people up. After not eating for a while your body starts burning the fat reserves in your body so you don't even feel hungry or weak but dehydration will fuck you up

Ibn Masʿūd says “they looked like Zutt,” but that doesn’t mean they were actual Zutt men.
“Zutt” were known in the region as a group of dark-skinned, thin, tall people (originally from the Indian subcontinent).
The description was used as a point of resemblance, similar to saying “they looked like Ethiopians” or “they looked like Persians.”
The beings were angels appearing in an unfamiliar form.

The verb ركب (rakiba) literally means “to ride,” but it has multiple meanings in Arabic depending on context:
Literal: to mount or ride an animal, vehicle, etc.
Figurative/metaphorical: to overcome, engage, surround, or interact with physically (as in a supernatural or metaphysical experience).
Here, classical commentators (e.g., al-Suyūṭī in al-Khasāʾiṣ al-Kubrā, al-Bayhaqī) explain that this refers to angels “mounting” in the sense of spiritually or physically surrounding the Prophet, possibly as part of a visionary or revelatory encounter, not any sexual act.
The narration itself explicitly identifies the beings as angels at the end. That’s crucial:
“هُم نفر من الملائكة” — “They were a group of angels.”

this is true, HOWEVER
cold turkey mass reduction in calorie intake causes the starvation response from the body, which first prioritizes disproportionate burning of muscle tissue and slows down the fat burning
+ ancient peoples weren't nearly as fat as people today
+ back then water was not really the main source of hydration, water is inefficient for hydration and potentially worsens electrolyte deficiencies

what you are saying is correct about the the water restriction and i do not know about ancient arab drinking patterns, but in regards to european climate and living patterns water was drank way less than it is today
