This includes four "impact" freezes, sufficiently severe to kill entire groves of citrus trees, resulting in a noticeable economic effect on citrus growers, prompting them to shift groves further southward. These impact freezes are indicated by asterisks in the following: Great Freeze of 1894-1895*, February 13–14, 1899, February 2–6, 1917, December 12–13, 1934, January 1940, December 12–13, 1957, December 12–13, 1962*, January 18–20, 1977, January 12–14, 1981, December 24–25, 1983*, January 20–22, 1985, and December 22–26, 1989*.[18]

Nonetheless only the south has a true tropical climate and the rest of the state can get freezes from time to time.

It's kind of deceptive because it looks like you're in the same climate zone as Siberia and Canada yet the winters there get to -30 or -40C regularly while Scandinavia never approaches that. It would be more accurate when it comes to summer temperatures.

I know. The Dfa belt in the US extends to the Great Plains but the further inland you go the more continental it is so winters get progressively colder. Iowa and Nebraska are much colder than Pennsylvania despite similar summer weather.

Siberia averages the coldest temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere, even the actual North Pole isn't as cold because it's just water with no actual solid land so moderating the temperatures a bit.

Yeah I used to play CS with a dude from there. He used to post pics in our chat and it looked like some sort of climate disaster movie outside. Think it was like -55C one time and it was far from the coldest it gets.
Meanwhile it was like -15C where I live.

was Yakutsk, no? temperatures there are normally below freezing 6 months a year and below -17C for four months. daytime highs are typically below -30C in Dec-Jan. yet summers there can on occasion get very hot, even over 32C. the growing season there is also an average 5 months.
