We Must RETVRN...
Germany used to be STRONG...
Anonymous Germany No.215898479 [Report] >>215898973 >>215899313
we must not
also like 3/4 of German submarine crews didn't survive the war because the submarines became the hunted later on themselves and once hit, there was hardly any escape

anyway Germany still produces quality submarines today, fortunately they rarely see combat anymore, but if they should, they would probably be capable

>once hit, there was hardly any escape

This is a good thing. It ensures everybody in that sub to fight at their fullest, to earn their survival.

Let's put it this way: Say you have an army of 100 soldiers vs an opposition army of 100 soldiers. If 50 of your soldiers run away, you'll lose by an overwhelming margin. However, if you were to strap bombs to their chests that would detonate if they even think about running away, you give yourself higher winning odds. Say 10 soldiers from the opposing army runs away. You'll easily win the battle through snowballing mechanisms.

The math checks out.

how do you come to the conclusion that I'm pro-Russian? doesn't follow from my posts. just because I acknowledge war is horrific doesn't mean I think we shouldn't prepare for it.

>>215899334
speaking of, the Polish navy wants new submarines too, German submarines are in the run too. Hope they get chosen, but I guess that remains to be seen, there are several competitors.

Is it true that the mechanisation of the German army is over-rated and that they mainly used horses for logistics?

We have a word for this in English.
It's called a 'Chickenhawk'.

In WW2, yes. Germany didn't have the fuel for full motorization.

Not really. They began the new meta of "mechanize everything", which is why it was so easy for them to win early on. Of course everybody else took notice and did the same thing then it wasn't as effective anymore. This concept of leading offensives with tank divisions was nascent, it seems obvious now in hindsight but it was literally the first war where the tank wasn't some new meme invention.

not true. only armored divisions were motorized. most divisions were infantry divisions and relied on horses. just because motorized divisions made the big news doesn't mean they were the brunt of the army.

Do you guys think we're talking about like... motorcycles and wagons when we talk primarily about "mass mechanization"?

The tank divisions, armored divisions, were new things. These were not common in WW1 and this was their proving ground. This is what is meant by "mass mechanization", it's relative to prior history, not now. Now we barely have infantry at all. Germany was the first to go all in on tanks and planes as the vanguard of the offensive.

Do you think infantry in ww1 moved on motorcycles and trucks?
