Posters added context: unmixed Quebécois people descend from a few hundred families from Northern France (mostly Bretagne and Normandy) and they are all related to one another to some degree. For generations, people from Québec prided themselves in such a heritage and were wary of mixing outside their ethnicity, even with the neighbouring Anglos who vastly outnumbered them.
