Ironicaly, (North) Italy was the biggest manufacturer of armor in europe through the 14th and 15th century. The were making tens of thousands of pieces every year and exporting to anyone who could pay in.

European invaders didnt use these kind of armors of the most time. They used native cotton-hardened armors. Mainly because
1) theres no point in using these armors when youre faced with stone & wood weaponry
2) most of the invaders werent professional soldiers but mostly fortune seekers with little to no experience in waging war

If anything the nobility on horseback charged in first (from the flanks, if their commanders were not retarded) and the peasant spearmen literally just ran away in terror. It was not uncommon for ordinary levies to rout at the mere sound of approaching cavalry. Try standing first in line while the Earth literally shakes around you from thousands of horses galloping, and you'd quickly see why.
