Because they aren't "innocent" just because they work for a car company. Hyundai is not the government. GM is not the government. Neither company can control the President if the President chooses to retroactively deny all their imported workers' visas when Hyundai's workers are not UAW.
Notice how this did not happen at a UAW closed shop in Michigan, Illinois or some other blue state where Unionism is strongly protected. If Trump were to break up a UAW controlled shop, every UAW shop in the whole country is stopping until their power is restored. What you're seeing Trump do to Hyundai is revenge, and the final consequence of capitalists trusting each other. It's why workers that want to stay in America go UAW.
The same for any other trade. Unionized workers have protection as a group. It's why USW Member Kilmar García got help, not just an attorney from the USW but also both of Maryland's Senators when the USW called them. Now every USW-agreement shop in North America, Canada and Mexico has an explicit rule stating they will shut down and walk out if Trump tries to take them without Due Process. And Trump doesn't because this is a real economic threat. Hyundai has no cards, and Hyundai workers have no cards.
