My computer is too pathetic to upgrade. I'll probably get a whole new build in 1-2 years, but for now, I'm stuck with Win10.

I used Win7 up until 2021, and only begrudgingly upgraded because it was getting to be a pain in the ass at that point.

I've been using Arch+Plasma+Wayland for almost a year now for gaming. Pretty good despite the fact that I have an Nvidia GPU.

Why wouldn't people do this? You need your work station and something works better on another OS just use the SSD or NVME and boot up another OD. Use a VM if your hardware is good.

I switched to linux two years ago and haven't looked back. It's a much better experience. It's becoming increasingly user friendly for people who aren't as technical and the vast majority of games will run well if that's a big thing for you.

Cinnamon is alright if you want something lean out of the box. But like GNOME, it does lack a bit of features.
KDE is really powerful and feature rich, but it does take a bit of work if you want to customize it to removed all the extra bloat.

You can unbloat 10 and it would be just a slightly shittier version of 7. In the end the interface grows on you and it's fundamentally no different than 7. It's nice having a notification pop up that I don't remember existing on 7.
11 is godawful trash, it really is. Think it was on /v/ some guy posted a blogpost by Microsoft about one of the designers of 11, she had never used a computer in her life before.
But yeah, I agree, 7 is still the goat. Beautiful and practical, the perfect example.
