I'm not fat and most of the people that are ridiculously fat are in the south. If you've ever been to the south they fry everything and douse everything in sugar. A lot of the problem is processed sugar. For instance Japanese food is highly processed carbs and has more MSG than food in the US, but their food has almost no sugar. They have a higher rate of hypertension, but almost no obesity. Genetics are a factor, but something like diabetes doesn't care what your genetics are like China has a higher rate of diabetes than the US and they're not as averse to sugar as Japan is.
