Most people here still have a negative image image about the french because the idea of the Napoleonic invasion still lingers and that's something we all learn at school and is still part of the public conscience of the people
Other than that the modern public image of France is simply horrible and doesn't help at all.

A lot of your politicians like Macron himself give off that typical aura of arrogance that most people could dislike about the french and that reinforces the sterotypes. Then we get news about Paris being on flames again with niggers rioting everywhere, or watch the Eurocup and see a team composed of 80% africans 10% arabs 5% germans 5% italians and we all get an incredibly decadent and hard to like image of France. We literally have no reason to like the country or the people.

Personally I have been learning french for a while and it made me realise that we are not that different, and that it's also a matter of egos since we both like to think that we are hot shit
