The actual storage used in Japan is the same as the rest of the world.
Many people use HDDs because of the durability problem and the high price of SSDs.

SSD can and will lose data if it's not plugged into power for an extended period of time. It could be six months, a year, three years, but it will lose data. Also, when it fails, it just dies without warning, and data recover is impossible. When HDD dies, it frequently is possible to fix the heads or move the platters to a functioning HDD of the same model to recover most of the data (very expensive to do, but possible).

Blu rays will definitely not last forever. they have structural design issues that lead to disc rot
CDs will outlast blu ray
>>216103705
I shouldn't have said forever, but CD's should last at least 100 years and probably longer, DVD's and blu-rays at least 50 years and degradation is dependent on the factory they were made in.
Like laser discs made during a certain time frame from a Sony factory are already rotting, but all the other ones are fine.
If they're kept in a climate controlled room and in a case I'm sure they can last for 1000 years.

It is the best for preservation yes. Basically optical media never goes bad unless you scratch it. Flash storage loses its charge and corrupts data after a few years.

Casual.

Hackers will gain access to your computer and fry your motherboard, producing fatal nerve gas which your computer's fans will blow into your face. Upgrade to windows 11 NOW sir, I begging you.
alright, optical drives.
which models are the best, for ripping media? I hear that some drives support more extensive error metrics, better error recovery, time-limited error recovery so the host can deal with it, etc
>>216109042
disc rot primarily affects discs that were made incorrectly to begin with
it's not common now that the problem is understood better by manufacturers

Lmao, NAND flash is literally Japanese man invention, and that's the most important storage medium today. You low IQ thirdoids never reach Japanese achievements like this, understand tech-wannabe low IQ thirdoid?
I'm gonna murder you if talk in a position of superiority to Japanese race next time, understand low IQ thirdoid?
>>216110608
Alright, I'm gonna drop a spoiler for all of you brainlets, US storage are all manufactured in Kioxia's Yokkaichi plant, we use China for assembly job, export them to US as Made-in-China, so not counted as Japan's trade surplus against US. lol
>>216111066 >m-muh fax machine and floppy disk
Such a quintessential coping method for you low IQ thirdoids. Floppy disk and HDD are IBM inventions, NAND flash is Kioxia's invention. If you want to talk about storage, bring it up after invent something useful, tech-wannabe low IQ thirdoid?

We've created plenty of shit in the software space.
And why bragging about "inventions" if your people stuck in not using these inventions?
