Exactly, German has a much clearer distinction between war/wäre. But le simple English has to cope with nonsense. It also cannot distinguish between would in present and past tenses.

Sure, but that’s not what makes a language logical imo. Slavic speakers will tell you that the extremely complicated English tense system is nonsense because Slavic languages only need 3-4 tenses instead of like 21 in English and the rest can be picked up from context.
