Every single piece of electronic equipment they're used in is consumer tech. Smart phones are one, they don't require much refinement either, not compared to wind or solar. Even Europe refines them on their own. If a country was going 100% into wind or solar energy yeah then upscaling refinement to China's demand makes sense, because you need an insane amount of rare earths to make wind turbines. That's literally the only case I can fine for needing as much refineries as they have.

when will chuds realize that America can afford paying more attention to "soft" science and humanities rather than STEM stuff simply because it's already rich while China is still a developing country that needs "hard" investments more?

Education needs to get people taking out loans for them and is way past capacity, so they make up bullshit to fill out seats. The private sector basically sees education outside of private unis to be a joke because people in education want to keep gaming the state for program money. The teachers make all the money, the students make nothing. LGBT exposed this because it was going on for awhile, eventually education needs to go back to being for specialists only rather than milling out useless papers. This applies to STEM as well, the vast majority of STEM research is useless just no one thinks twice about it because they see STEM are are amazed by default. Part of me thinks LGBT was created specifically to draw outrage onto education just to give feds an excuse to cut down on it, because LGBT is massively hated and caused a moral panic in the US.
