Lithuania lacks an airforce, they had to wait for Spain to launch fighter jets it had deployed in the Baltic countries

Turkey got assfucked by their NATO "allies" for shooting down the Russian jet.

I know NATO has a balt air policing program but why don't balts just combine their smol air forces into a bigger one so they can collectively have their own fighters etc?

A Lithuanian commander still has to get the ok from the Spanish military to launch a Spanish jet.

yes, why not do an integration of all the military branches while we're at it? pool resources and establish common training standards, let countries cover gaps im each other's capabilities. and sign a mutual defense pact. then maybe we can also invite other countries...

Proof that nukes is the ultimate hedge.

If Russia didn't have nukes, Yurop would have marched straight to Moscow and burned everything in their path.

Even if they only have 50-200 working nukes instead of the 5000+ they claim it's still spooky enough for any country to not touch them.

No, when a country deploys its forces to a NATO mission they fall under their NATO commander's operational command.

I see, but the NATO operational commander often times won't be from the nation hosting the deployment, so Lithuania would have still had to request them to launch the planes

america would bomb us

america offers security guarantees in exchange for countries not getting nukes or giving them up. see Ukraine - they gave up nukes in 1991 and both america and russia guaranteed their security. they clearly got a great deal there.

Well, it would be better for everyone if they hadn't given up nukes and stayed in the same country with Russia.
