I don't know anything about this nigga but ending a century long reign in Wales by being a historically shitty politician really intrigues me. Surely there have been other Labour politicians at least as bad as him in the past?

our voting system is retarded. Jeremy corybn ran labour when they had their worst election since the party has existed, and he got more votes than the current labour majority did. iirc the current approval rating of the government is around 12%, which is strange how starmer is still in charge with the tories seemingly changing the pm every other day over the last decade

I'm confused because it's not like Britain started going to shit the second he was appointed, they've been deindustrializing, losing global revelance and being flooded with various third worlders for decades now, no matter who was PM

its impossible on a technical level, and if they even try they'll face actual corporate backlash because its not something you can bend the knee to, you NEED one to operate unless you have everything on prem

In my country there are only 2 subjects where both the left and the right - government and opposition agree on:
- Israel
- Surveilance measures

It's so weird because nobody wants them and they seem like very cheap political ammunition but instead suddenly any opposition party is even harder in favour than the government itself.

It can be regulated. There are many things which are legal for companies to use but illegal/impossible to own for the individual.
That doesn't mean nobody will have a VPN but much like the TV license they can make it illegal to operate a VPN and randomly go after people paying SurfShark or NordVPN from their official bank account.

Why do people keep saying this?
A ban doesn't mean it has a 100% succes rate. It just means that 99% of the population won't be able to own something because the barrier is too high for them and the government can go after the 1% who went out of their way to get it.

Guns are banned here but still sometimes people get shot. Regardless gun ownership is extremely low and people with firearms are seen as criminals simply for ownership.
I think that's also what they might do with a VPN.

because "people" know vpns aren't just the end user slop that's advertised on third rate youtube channels between vocalized wikipedia articles
it's the backbone of business and digital infrastructure
building backdoors into all vpns is like building in a "kill the economy with one easy hack" into your digital landscape
building a backdoor into end user available VPNs or regulating those, just means the business can move offshore, leading to a game of cat an mouse of trying to block user of your own people to sites and services that pop into existence or change their addresses ocasionally
it's like trying to stop piracy
as to who would bother to use VPNs and who would bother looking for offshore ones, obviously the 14 year olds trying to get around the porn filter, and this a cohort that will always have people coming into it, with even people growing out of it continuing to use VPNs to not have their porn habits monitored by mr government, people are pretty autistic about that
