Same shit happened in the train yesterday. Heard some English with some obvious German accent and at the next stop they started speaking German (probably because the foreigner left at that stop). They don't care about the effort you put into speaking. If it's not perfect German you might as well speak English.

I am an American and learning Dutch, but like the Jew Dutch, it's more south, spoken sort of like English with a lisp. I don't speak this south Dutch well, I guess I'm nervous?
My German is not good, and I can't speak it well. I can't learn lessons and it's the worst. I tried to speak with an accent, and it's shit, Jung warned us about the Germans, they can't speak English. Saging this shit German speech because it's dumb, my sole consolation is downvoting it while speaking English. Please, why can't I just speak German, even one word?

(I'm pretty sure he's actually bitching that Germans speak English to him when he's there to learn German, because they can tell by his accent or clothes or grammar that he's einen Amerikaner and want to show off their English they spent half their childhood learning, but I only know a few German connecting words)

The American spoke German cause he wants to learn
The German spoke English cause he feels German is worthless

The amount of us who know another language that isn't Spanish or French is actually astonishingly high when you realize we have no border with any countries which speak any other languages and the nearest islands all speak Spanish or French and maybe the nearest actual other language speaking landmass to our mainland is either Greenland or Brazil

I'm British and my German is still shit but I rarely get this problem of German people switching to English. Despite the perception that everyone knows English, I'd say the majority still actually don't, and among those that do many are still not confident in their speaking so insist on using German anyway. If someone is switching to English with me, it's people like university students with perfect English who language-mog me.
