Hi there. I'm a Venezuelan living in Madrid. I moved here with my family 6 months ago. A lot of people seem to be interested in Venezuelans these days, so I can answer any of your questions as part of the Venezuelan diaspora.

It's pretty big but the thing is we all end up in the same areas. I'm totally against that, I don't want Spanish people to think we are creating ghettos, but sometimes it's inevitable. You arrive here, you don't know how things are done, but you already have a friend from school, or a cousin, so he knows somebody who is renting a room or who is looking to hire... you know how it works. There already are more than a million of us in Spain.

Everybody hates him but most people are so absolutely demoralized that nobody is gonna do anything. As I said, the "lucky ones", the ones with money or Spanish ancestors, already left. People would unironically welcome an American invasion but I nobody expects much. I think it will be like Cuba, people leave and the ones who are trapped there, accept their destiny, accept their white rice and potatoes and that's it.

Maduro made things even worse but this has been going on for decades. Things were already getting pretty bad in the 90s, but still tolerable for latin american standards I guess. Little by little you see how things just keep getting worse until then one day, this turned like Mad Max as I commented before. My mother has become completely paranoid and barely leaves the house. It even took me some weeks to not get all nervous here in Spain everytime I heard a motorbike. The constant threat of violence in Venezuela really fucks you in the head.

I’ve heard that South America can be dangerous but honestly I’m not that bothered so long as it’s not pants on head retardedly dangerous, I can use common sense and shit and knowledge of language (once I learn it) to avoid trouble and won’t go out looking for it. I've always been a peaceful guy and my father always tried to taught me a lot about Spain. When I was a child and things were not so bad in Venezuela, we used to take part in a Spanish cultural association where we would eat Spanish food, women would dance flamenco, etc. I really want to blend in and be a member of the country that has accepted me. In all aspects. Even with our langauge, using the same words and expressions that are used here.
