I wanted to play the drums but my parents didn't want to deal with the noise, so they got me a "guitar" instead, with an amplifier and headphones so I could play it without bothering anyone. It actually turned out to be a bass (they didn't know the difference). I've been a bass player ever since.

I remember being 13 years old figuring out how to wire my CD player into my amp, then plug my headphones in and play along with all my favorite songs. The first song I ever learned on bass was "Sunshine of your Love" by Cream. Nowadays I play in an alt rock band.
