There's no fresh vibe in China. If you go to China's big cities, you'll get the feel of AliExpress. They're just filled with soulless skyscrapers arbitrarily built by the Communist government. And The Average Chinese citizens are too poor to afford cultural experiences. This is why, unlike South Korea or Japan, China can't export its pop culture to the West. To export pop culture, you first need the infrastructure and consumer structure to enjoy it in your own country. South Korean and Japanese pop culture dominates Asia because there are consumers and markets willing to consume it. So, Not even Chinese people outside China finds the Chinese culture is cool. The Chinese Communist government doesn't understand the delicate nature of cultural exports. They believe cultural exports are possible through mass-producing cheap replicas like AliExpress or Shein. Even in Asia, Chinese culture and China are considered uncool, So, their pop culture will never be considered cool in the West, like South Korea or Japan.

I'm old enough to remember Cool Japan BS which SK's Ministry of Culture copied. SKorea even copied Japan's branding styles from the 2000s (J-Pop/J-Rock => K-Pop).

In terms of promoting its pop culture abroad China's main disadvantages lies on the CCP being strict on freedom of expression and also a huge domestic market that deincentivizes caring for international audience's tastes.

A significant source of data for reconstruction of Tang era music is from Gagaku
Basically the Japanese wanted to be as Chinese as possible and so they traveled to China and were shown Chinese music
They thought they were getting sacred Confucian music but in reality none of them were permitted to hear it, what they got was actually more like the popular music of the day
They brought this home along with Chinese instruments and basically just played it exactly the same for over 1000 years
The Chinese have no real sources about this music and so need to rely on Gagaku
From what I understand over time Gagaku slowed down to a glacial beat and so modern reconstructions are much faster

But Japan clearly diverged into its own thing. Not to mention Japan was ahead of China in development in the 20th century so a lot of the 20th century stuffs are clearly theirs. In the OP, there are 2 things that are distinct Japanese: the castle and putting neon on the castle which is something Japan think of in the 20th century.
Chinese culture has also move on, the Ming/Qing forts and gardens look different
