That's true, but there was a big jump from 1 to 2 and people expected a similar level of upgrade. When 3 first came out people coped by saying that it still had no DLCs, even without DLCs there were still more features compared to base CK2, and so on. The continuous disappointment from one DLC to another probably mindbroke the average CKfag.

it was about dynasties and characters but CKII did have more depth. For example a civil war in CKII could absolutely split your realm or even end your game, in CKIII it's just annoying at best but you're never under any threat

I can start up CKIII and install myself as emperor of whatever within a few years and never lose a single war, etc. all "depth" they've added are extremely shallow or just outright broken and the stuff like iberian struggle or iranian intermezzo are workshop mods at best you interact with them once and never care about them again

I know I did but it doesn't change the fact that CKIII is very shallow and DLCs they are releasing now cater to a wildly different group of people than who first played these games. It's all mostly stuff you will interact with once for the novelty and stop caring which is disappointing because years later there's still no depth to it really.

I think the biggest difference is there's no systems to directly limit the player in ck2 for example you could only declare holy wars for duchy level titles and literally every single member of the attacked religion could and often joined to prevent you whereas in ck3 stupid shit like hindu iraq or muslim england are the norm rather than the exception. Add to this that the AI is coded to grant its titles to vassals in the most moronic way possible, that retarded fart events spawn an ungodly amount of characters causing an ungodly amount of lag, if you just use common sense fighting the AI feels like scraping the paint off your drywall. Wars are tied to the de jure structure but the AI realms are always complete spaghetti
