Lots of people I know IRL love Japan, not just the weebs but also many boomers who like to go there from time to time.
What's so special about it? I've been to Korea in 2017 and while the country is nice from the outside, I'd probably neckrope myself if I had to live there for a long time from all the stress.
Is Japan different?

I don't know man. I follow some streamess on Insta, who is in Japan atm.

They freak out over some LEDslop on the walls, kawaii plastic products and power lines on houses.

Weebs are often I feel, filling their cultural and spiritual hole that late postmodernity gave them with the easiest and flashiest cultural products attainable: Tranime, Hypercapitalism and soft Buddhist aesthetics

It's all about internet memes echo chamberred for a whlie among weebs but eventually hooking bored norms with the great help of weak Japanese Yen(our currency if unheard)

Japan is familiar enough without seeming too foreign. Anime aside, this is the same reasons so many autists live Japan. The cities are clean and orderly. The infrastructure works as its intended. The food is boring yet different enough that you can convince yourself you’re eating something exotic. If it weren’t for the language barrier Japan would be the easiest country to visit, and that language barrier lowers every day with translator apps and Japan increasingly catering to English speakers.
