I've visited Japan and South Korea. As well as met Japanese and Koreans in college and work.

Koreans usually have a negative opinion of Japan and shit-talk a lot. Though Gen Z'ers seem to be a bit less autistic about Japan hating.

Japanese are either indifferent, actually gush about Korean stuff, or assblasted about them.

Now comparatively, South Korean dudes are a bit taller and buff compared to Japanese guys but it's not that big of a gulf. I've encountered plenty of Japanese dudes (no they weren't ethnic Koreans or Chinese) in Japan who had rizz and pulled in hot girls (Japanese and foreign).

What gives South Koreans a bit more edge is that they're more open in expressing their emotions than Japan plus the advent of Kpop and K-media makes them the new shiny thing for Westerners to flock to. Japan's been the object of Asiatic interest for decades and it still has a lot of staying power. It's not so much as Japan is declining; it's that other Asian countries are getting their share of the market now.
