In America it's basically impossible to exist without a steady income. Rent is expensive everywhere unless you're living in the middle of nowhere. If you're living in the middle of nowhere you'll need to own a car to get places, which means you also need to pay for car insurance, and pay for gas, and put aside some extra money in case something happens to your car.
Also having a gap in your resume is basically suicide in the American workforce. The people who will potentially be hiring you see a gap as either A) no one else wanted to hire this guy, so why should we?, or B) this guy is behind the curve on modern workflows and will be too much work to train.
You have to work until you die.

We're feudalmaxxing. The goal of the American economy is to consolidate as much wealth as possible at the top 0.1% of the socioeconomic ladder. Every year the elite are finding new ways to siphon even more money from us, their loyal subjects.
It's an impossible system to escape because of what I described in my previous reply. The need to work 24/7 and focus on covering your own expenses just to keep your head above water is too much to focus on fixing the broken system.
