I wish him luck but if I were the dems I wouldn't put all my chips on a guy who couldn't even be arsed to attend city council votes to carry the future of the party, new york is one of my favorite cities though so I hope he can make it better, but considering his track record I won't keep my hopes up.

In reality they haven't. The party leaders haven't even fully endorsed him, but they're so desperate to clench a win after Trump 2.0 that they're letting him cook anyway.
Rent control and government run grocery stores are bad policies but the first and probably the second will be popular, and he's charismatic and fairly competent so he'll be popular. Boomerchuds are the trending lolcow for a while. Nothing more

two scenarios
1. he won't do shit, because he's just a mayor, and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. socialists will be smug in the end and b like, see?? not so bad huh?
2. he actually gets to implement his dumbfuck policies, which will fail horrendously because the state cannot into competency

Brandon Johnson got cucked by city council but I'm not sure this will be the same... After all I am not in new york and don't know their politics well

Both policies are extreme but probably increasingly necessary last resorts to at least stabilizing the soaring living costs in NYC. Whether they'll actually go all the way toward achieving what's been promised is another discussion, but at this point I think it's worth a try. If they fail then the lolbertarians can guffaw all they want.

Rent control can work perfectly well for people already there, it's the rest of the world it stiffs (along with future generations through decreased growth)
