You're right. I hallucinated that number to be 43 million because I thought it was insane that it would take 20+ years to pay off so little. My mind tried to autocorrect the number. I've made 20k part time at Fedex in a year, how is this even possible?

My parents contributed to my RESP which means I'll be graduating debt-free
If they didn't do that I wouldn't have even gone to uni because my father instilled in me the value of "never fucking go into debt, ever'

that type of loan is for those unlucky enough to have parents wealthy enough to pull their household income above the low-income bracket but who are unwilling to pay for their child's education
They didn't do anything to deserve it but they are second-class

Assuming he's a doctor and graduated at 30, it would be less than 200 buxx/month. Counting the inflation it's actually more profitable to have a loan like that, compared to paying upfront

If he was smart enough to invest he wouldn't be bragging about being free at last. He's probably some idiot who doesn't know how to save.

It's a matter of perception, if you ask me. That dude might not even realise that in last 15 years JPY lost like 50+% of buying power. But I agree, if at 44 you brag or even care about that kind of thing : probably you aren't doing it right

i was unemployed so i put my loans on forbearance. then i got a job and was using my student loans to churn credit cards. then the covid loan freeze happened. then when the loan freeze ended bond yields were way higher than my interest so money went there instead. recent cuts killed that strategy so i'll pay them off now.

$28,000 USD doesn't seem like a lot, but if you have 10% interest on it, and you cannot pay it for the 4 years you're in university, or the 4 years you just got out and landed your first job, then you'd end up paying a maximum of $333k over 26 years.

He probably didn't pay $333k but more like $200k in total or so.

I never had debt and university is free, and you get some gibs as well.
Keep in mind you are basically a slave to the state from the moment you are born and until you complete conscription around 20 years old. After that you are FREE to do whatever you want. Unless the state ORDERS you to do something (this only applies in wartime but nonetheless)

I have zero student debt and boss around people with bachelors and masters degrees at work. The trick is to just to take the core classes cheaply at a community college then just get the related certifications. Then you get into entey level management in the time you saved. Tradiemaxing
