Why are they suddenly becoming more and more religious instead secular like most of Europe? After Trump's reelection and Kirk's assasination America made a big pivot towards Christianity. Heck, they're even constructing a big-ass Christ sculpture next to the Statue of Liberty in NYC. Are they mad? I mean, they've always been religious but they're becoming radical at this point.

They still go through periodic cycles of Baptist-evangelical religiosity which you also saw during Bush II. In this instance it's just inflamed by 'muh culture war' and social media grifters.

There's a similar movement the Americans are trying to push here that everyone immediately recognised as astroturf:

We're 68% catholic and our church attendance is only, like, 27% these days (secularization hastened up thanks to COVID). Nobody here takes religious seriously except for old hags (our right wing politicians try to make us look religious still, lol). the fact that you think “the prosperity gospel” is how any significant number of american christians think about christianity is a perfect example of what im talking about. A phenomenon that is real, but small and way overhyped in the media because it’s salacious, and because you don’t actually live here, you think it’s more important than it actually is. It’s similar to those who think a fervent belief in dispensationalism is why evangelicals support israel, because that gets overhyped in media. in reality, the average american christian supports israel because they hate muslims for committing terrorist attacks and being brown.

You remember that one dialogue with Socrates in Timaeus? Where he tries to explain that all knowledge is recollected? That's the primary function of religion, the idea that everything is known and all knowledge merely needs to be reconnected with. The word religion quite literally means 'bind again' the same way people quote socialist intellectuals is the same way people quoted scholastic monks, if theology has anything to do with religion then so does any philosophic praxis. Slavoj Zizek is a hardcore atheist yet he quotes Lacan like it's the Talmud and believes in quantum superposition that suggests the world is never full rendered like it's a PS1 video game.

Religion is like crude machine learning where the AI keeps putting circular objects into the square slot because it's possible to do so, but not necessarily correct. It fails to consider the broader context of purpose or theory and borrows strictly from pragmatism in a social context. So say "you should wash your hand to kill germs before eating to prevent infection" end up with "wash your hand before you eat as God spares those who cleanse themselves of impurity before receiving his bounty"

Being a revealed religion isn't a necessary criteria for being a religion at all. For instance Catholicism isn't a revealed religion, they still have mysteries that you can't know of unless you join the higher ranks, they also gatekeep almost all of their documentation in Latin. They quite literally refuse to translate some documents, it's an extremely fetishistic religion. Religion attempts to cartelize knowledge, it believes it can extract data then cast it into a mold that makes sense within its legal system. Every single system of law that we use today comes from religion, it was never expected to produce anything scientific at best it indexes data, but even practices like alchemy were never religious they were considered magical or secular.

That actually reminds me of how the common law works in the US and Commonwealth countries. Lawyers and judges keep “rediscovering” the principles that should govern society by analysing precedent, even in new fields like biotech.

And it’s interesting that common law developed mainly in Protestant-majority countries, while Catholic Europe leaned more toward civil codes , even though the origins of both systems predate those religious divides.

I’m not sure one system is “better” than the other, but common law is definitely more flexible. Judges can adjust principles when new social or technological situations emerge, whereas civil law tends to rely more heavily on legislation drafted in advance.

It's on him to defend that not me, secularism exists because not everyone cares about systemic functions. You need secularism because you need people focused on tasks and not organizing the big picture. Would you want to live in a purely secular society without laws or any way to mass implement anything due to there being no rules of social engagement? You know if a society runs purely on Darwinism people will cheat to get ahead, they won't care for procedure, and some people won't even accept that they came up short. It's impossible to organize anything, if you think religion is completely worthless then extend the same sentiment to law. Even something as strict as Aristotelian logic requires you to accept terms before engaging in discourse, people like John Calvin weren't even monks for most of their education, he studied law and became a theologian later. There's a certain degree of bullshit that keeps society running you couldn't have credit systems without it, which also originated in religious fraternities.
Anonymous United States No.216533768 [Report] >>216534303
>>216533546
That's the whole reason for the autism between ritual and religion. If a system works no one wants to change it even for the better, religion will bullshit reasons to implement new things into it. That's why it was so successful to begin with the neoplatonic framework allows a legal system to say 'oh it exists? therefore god knows of it' then immediately start trying to integrate new knowledge. For the most part religion is best handled by elites, it serves no purpose spreading it to the masses. Even to this day I don't understand why Augustine hated the City of Man so much, not everyone can be a manager you still need people not concerned with the whole.

I’m not a theologian, but Japanese religion is mostly polytheistic, and polytheistic systems don’t assume a single perfect cosmic order. The kami and Buddhist deities have different personalities and sometimes conflicting roles.

In contrast, Abrahamic monotheism is built around one omnipotent God, so the universe is thought to have a single coherent order.

So in Japan, people can pray for help or luck, but it’s not with the same expectation that “one almighty being controls everything.” It’s more like asking for favor within a complex, plural system.

Public facing governance is like having a school teacher teach chemistry without ever having been a professional. They're middle management effectively, you want professional lawyers dealing with law not the public, it's a waste of their talent in the say way having a professional chemist teaching middle school is a waste. The people who draft laws, at least in the US, do it via precedent. They analyze a case then build a system that can accommodate that outcome. Depending on the outcome it may piss people off so you need public facing officials to get the public to accept it. Of course there's a certain amount of cynicism when it comes to systems that require expertise, but they don't decide the verdict of a trial jurors do, all they do is analyze the case within a legal framework.

It's really not, unless people think they can vote away the constitution, which no country can really do without completely overthrowing their government. When you elect a politician you're electing a representative, not a professional, the average person doesn't study law or politics it would be like having random people vote in who gets to be a physicist. There's no legal system anywhere that just lets random people vote on laws you always elect a congressman who wants to propose a bill, then the bill either becomes a law or not, then lawyers and the judicial system analyze it to see if it's working. The fact that it uses jurors at all affords the public some input and trust, but jurors/clients are pretty much the majority of interaction lawyers have with regular people.

it's a response to left wing baby murder and sodomy. It's probably also to build a coalition with hispanics and other nonwhite christians. like due to the left wing party intentionally flooding the US with nonwhites in an act of genocide for the past 60 years the right wing party feels like it needs to either declare hispanics are white or base the party around christianity instead of whiteness (the latinxes are usually christian anyway) because party lines are becoming increasingly more race/ethnic based like every other nation ever that's tried to be multiethnic

Why do you have to be religious to oppose these though? I'm not religious and I don't like abortion past six weeks or faggot "rights" shit either.

The horrors of WW1 and WW2 never reached North American shores, so Americans were (culturally speaking) much less cynical and defeatist, and so they were also less likely to abandon their religion. I feel like that's at least one factor anyway.

idk, for whatever fucking reason people feel the need to use religion as an excuse to hate sodomy and baby murder. like they won't just say those things are gross without adding the religious part to it. I think it's also an excuse to meet people since dating apps are gay and no one goes to bars or anything. it's like a social club. and again it's trying to form a political group around something other than being white
