I don't understand why the French surrender of 1940 is seen as undue or cowardly. France surrendered because it lost the war. It cannot get any more simple than that.
It would make more sense if we were mocked for having lost in the first place, but instead we are mocked for "surrendering", as if there had not been any fight that led up to it, and the surrender was unprompted and unjustified.

They knew the Germans would go through Belgium again, the military wasn't that retarded. The whole point of the Maginot line was to funnel German troops into Belgium and to have any fighting take place away from French soil, unlike what happened during ww1 which absolutely demolished the French economy. Keep in mind that the most industrialised part of France has always been the north east, and the front line went right through that.

At first the plan was to station troops directly into Belgium and build up defences there as well, but the Belgian government schizoed out and told France to fuck off to not anger Germany. Yes they still believed in the neutrality meme despite having acted the exact same way during ww1 to the same result, even as German troops marched into Poland.

Because of that the new plan was to rush into Belgium as soon as Germany started invading them and try taking up defensive positions alongside rivers like the Meuse and the Senne. Germany managed to invade Belgium insanely quick though so that didn't work out either - and then the well known Ardennes fumble happened, though that was an insanely risky move that could have just easily costed the Germans the war.

In short, yeah I'm fucking tired of everyone parroting that shit, especially the 'teehee why didn't they think of the germans just going around le maginot!' THAT WAS THE EXACT POINT OF THE MAGINOT YOU DUMB CUNT and basically this was all Belgium's fault (as always)
