Considering WMAF is primarily sought after by hipsters and IT guys who either seek novelty or are heavily demoralized and allured by the new rise in Asian media, I'd imagine perspective changes on location. The ones in Asia think they're one of the good ones who made it out, so when they see a white guy with an Asian and she's ugly they want to single him out because he makes them all look bad. The ones in the west try to make the pairing more accepted so they don't get singled out, since Asian women are less common they single out ugly guys because they don't want to be associated with them. Supply and demand dictates that scarcity is the driving economic force, note how they both attack the more common quantity the AF in Japan and the WM in the west. It's easier to manipulate trends by putting pressure on how more common resources are used.
