I don't know. The Swedish King, Gustav Vasa, ordered them to be exiled and killed and "beyond justice/rights" 500 years ago but little to nothing happened. I suppose they just went into the next village and the village could report to the king that we did as you asked milord.
Reminds me a bit of these communist dictatorships like china where the provinces just report whatever numbers the government wants to hear.

A lot of people have tried. Hitler was probably the most recent, but we made our own attemp back in the 18th century.
You have to understand that nations weren't really a central concept before the Peace of Westphalia. Monarchs didn't care about which ethnic groups they governed as long as they were law-abiding and tax-paying subjects. That's why minorities such as jews and gypsies were discriminated by the common people and not the "elites". Neither would the minorities integrate nor would the commoners want them to. They were always foreign.
