Wasn't 70s NYC very dangerous? I'd probably want to experience 80s/90s Tokyo though.

NYC was a shithole in the 70s unless you were some art school punk kid.

>Wasn't 70s NYC very dangerous?
It was basically 90s Moscow, arguably the worst the city has ever been apart from the Great Depression and COVID. Made for a fantastic setting for crime films/shows though, arguably one of the best settings in fiction.
> I'd probably want to experience 80s/90s Tokyo
Late 80s Tokyo was the peak of the city. It was pretty much a 24 hour retrofuturistic party (just be careful not to cross paths with organized crime though).

i wonder how dangerous walking through kabukicho actually was during that time.
weirdest things you see there nowadays are some shady soaplands, the toyoko kids and some hidden hookers near love hotels

NYC was awful in the 70's lol that was its dark age. My dad went back then and the garbagemen were on strike. Trash up to his waist, everyone smoked indoors, and seriously people would stick you up for the clothes off your back. However, you can buy bootleg goods very cheap if you haggle with the Chinese and Pakistanis. I also visited NYC and bought lots of bootleg stuff.

Unlike NYC, where various ethnicities have likely increased since then, there's no real difference between Tokyo in the 70s and Tokyo today.
People may be getting older, but that's all.

NYC was always multiethnic, that's its identity. Even back when the Dutch settled it was popular for minorities since it was one of the few religiously tolerant places in the world.

I'm not Japanese so I can't comment much, but Japan in the 70s seems to have been the perfect moment of fusion between tradition and the technology we know today, it was a decade before the economic boom that changed everything
but im probably wrong.

It's not unlike now only it's more soulless and the gang violence has been replaced by schizophrenic, disorganized violence. It's very hard to explain what Amercian big cities are like to foreigners because there's really no place like them in the world (even Canadian cities are quite a bit different).
>my state is probably less chaotic
WTF, what part of Brazil are you from? The Northeast?

Japan was cool in the 70s but the early to mid 60s was where it was at. If you've ever watched a Ghibli movie called Only Yesterday, it's all about this time period in Japan, and it seems like a really fantastic place to be.

The 1970's in the US was pure hell. Not as bad as today, but it was the beginning of the decline.

I somehow want to search more about big cities in the American North and Northeast, but there is so much information that is simply sensationalist or biased that it's sad.
>WTF, what part of Brazil are you from? The Northeast?
The northeast is ironically the shittiest region in the country, specially when we consider the violence
Im from são paulo countryside, the capital city is full of thefts and such, but compared to other states, we are safer, ironically because only one gang dominates our state, so shootings don't happen
The countryside is also cozy
Fuck, now I'm actually wondering if são paulo city today is really better than nyc in the 70s.

Most of the negative stuff you read about New York City is either exaggerated or completely fake. It's actually the safest place in America with considerably below average crime, rare natural disasters and hardly any car accidents. Philadelphia and Chicago have a lot of crime though

I prefer 80s. 70s is long enough ago that it starts to feel foreign.

>search more about big cities in the American North and Northeast
The nicest cities in the Northeast are in New England (Boston and Providence especially are great cities), while most of NYC is adequate outside of certain neighborhoods despite the vibe being shitty and tense. D.C outside of Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, and Downtown was extremely shitty for a very long time but is temporarily being cleaned up by Trump sending in the troops due to D.C not having any state's rights, doing something like France does with Operation Sentinelle (though this will likely end whenever Republicans are out of office). The really shitty Northeastern cities that live up to the worst stereotypes are Philly and Baltimore (for obvious reasons if you look at the demographic breakdowns of those two cities), and the suburbs of those places; along with the rust belt cities like Allentown, Springfield, Albany, Rochester, Newark, Wilmington, and Buffalo that are just plain impoverished and forlorn.
>são paulo city today is really better than nyc in the 70s
It absolutely is. I mean, fuck, Sao Paulo in the 70s was probably nicer than NYC then.

It's an objective fact. NYC has the same homicide rate as rural America + you don't have to drive which matters a lot for huwhites who don't voluntarily spend time with feral niggers and therefore rarely deal with much violent crime even in dangerous places like Philadelphia
