Do you never get bored during these trips? What about the temptation to stop and see shit? To me the main attraction of travelling is visiting places, but road trippers seem to just enjoy driving all day.
Also did you use highways? Because that's the ultimate boring drive. At least in Europe. The scenic routes here are all on 1960s-era smaller roads.

I've driven all of those routes. If you take the highlighted one you should go right past the only public Oregon sunstone mine in the world. Its worth going to.

I wouldn't even recommend these routes as such, since they miss a lot of stuff. It would be silly to go all the way to southeastern Oregon and not stop by the Steens Mountains/Kiger Gorge/Lake Alvord area, for example.

>Do you never get bored during these trips?
I did get bored yes, seeing endless corn and soy bean fields in very flat land tends to get boring.

>What about the temptation to stop and see shit?
For couple of towns I did go to museums and get some souvenirs. I did have time limit because I was getting RV trailer in Michigan and fuel costs were no joke.

>Also did you use highways?
From AZ to MI, I did use interstates. On the return trip, I did use the small roads all back till AZ since I was getting used to towing RV trailer.

Why? makes more sense to take the train or even fly for such distances, no?

This is the reason why, got the RV in Michigan. Cheaper to drive over there than getting it shipped by truck.
