Yeah, better part of 30 years now. Grew up with Black Sabbath and stuff that my dad used to blast in the garage.

But metal has always been my main genre of music. Everything else just sounds empty and flat.

No, something about metal seems to attract beta males and neck beards. Musically it doesn’t seem to do anything better than other genres. It’s not heavier than any random experimental rock band you could listen to. It’s not rhythmically compelling like Jazz or captures the chaotic quality of it, it’s not harmonically or melodically compelling like classical (likewise with the form itself) The guitarist tend to sound like type writers (scaleular) with poor development off of established themes if at all, which is the antithesis of musicalness. All genres have their virtues of course but Metal seems to possess the quality of musicalness at first glance but after a deeper look is ultimately hollow.

I used to when i was 13 and then some really hot girls from my class took me to a rave, the very next day i realised that metal, rock and all of the associated acts are nothing but angry loser garbage "music" for worthless, smelly, greasy subhumans. I was really embarrassed and still am but in my defence i was just a dumb kid at the time and my mom used to laugh at me saying you'll grow out of it and that is exactly what happened, a whiff of pussy and mdma helped a lot too.

Hell yes. During Covid when a lot of shows and stuff were cancelled Mustasch said fuck it and played live on a rolling truck. Gothenburg was rocking that day. Good memories.

Most people I know and work with listen to metal.
It's just a normal music genre here unlike in some other countries, nothing special about it.
Go to a metal concert or festival here and it's always sold out, crowd full of couples, families and normal people.

Spheres kind of laid down where the band was headed... I think they were still in their teens when they dropped Nihility. There was Death, Cynic, Atheist, and maybe Suffo and Pestilence to draw from, and very early Opeth as far as odd death metal goes, but really techy bands like Gorod and Martyr would have been completely unknown, and even Quebec was still largely sludgy and "oldschool"... Decapitated kind of bootstrapped themselves while nobody was looking.
