>>216660358 >looking around at your surroundings and the achievements of your ancestors makes you realize that you're better than everyone else
nothing wrong with that.

yeah, Europe really is nice. girls on bicycles smiling and everything. really peaceful. I learned to ride on roller skates for no money when they saw I tried so hard.

Yes, pride is a virtue when it is the moral ambitiousness to live up to one's ideals and to value and responsibly pursue self-esteem, integrating virtues like integrity, independence, productivity, justice, and honesty as means to that self-esteem.
Do you have any other questions you want me to answer?

is national pride virtuous?, i think pride can be decadent. When you think you are too good to practice or learn something, that prevents you from learning it, when you think you are better than someone, that precludes you from learning something from them, with national pride there is a very thin line that separates virtue from decadence

lmao, what an absolute nonsense answer. None of that shit requires you to be proud of your country/ethnicity/whatever it just requires you to be a good person. If you are incapable of any of that on an individual level without pride for your geographic location then you're just not a good person. Same idea with religious people, like if their religion is the only thing separating them from being "sinners" then they aren't very good people in the first place imo

National pride is a useful trait for engineering eugenic societies. Otherwise the actually important groups in the world stop having children, because of some high-falutin humility. The nation is the extension of the tribe, and the tribe is the extension of the family. We love our families, and we should love our nation.

or, get this, just foster a country with an economy that enables and supports young parents and then people who want to have kids wont have to think about it as a potentially negative life decision. Japanese people have a lot of national pride if I'm not mistaken and look at their birth rates

A culture that values the family and its progeny's God-given duties is infinitely more valuable than an economy that makes the load just a little bit lighter. The DNA of a nation and peoples is found in its stories and virtues, both literally and metaphorically. It's why the Britain of today claims inheritance from the Britain of yesterday, even if there's been a fall from grace, and the sclerotic attitudes held today weren't to be found in the worst throes of the industrial revolution. We have so much freedom we don't know what to do with it. And you'd be mistaken about Japan -- a facade of bravado is not equal to national pride, otherwise they wouldn't be the sacrifice of the family on the altar of share prices.

LMAO

you do realize that a good economy equates to good public facilities/education/parks and other shit like that right?? (assuming of course that the country isn't like the US where all the money goes into the pockets of the billionaires). National pride will come naturally as a byproduct from a good society

I'm sure the sub-continentals have a wealth of accessible parks and nurseries and aviaries and aquariums to facilitate their baby-making. A human being shouldn't need the state to compel them to raise a family.
>>216665531
I mean in a vacuum you might be able to make that point but people today are also plenty more educated than people in Dickensian London. Also you need to take into account social media and news and all that crap, it's surely easier to settle down and start a family (for some people) when they aren't surrounded by media coverage of the latest bus stabbing or school shooting or whatever.
>>216665605 >A human being shouldn't need the state to compel them to raise a family.
says the person arguing for national pride. I agree with that statement though
