The confusion derives from this fact:

Spanish 300 years ago meant the Peninsula & the Americas, there was no differetation since the vicerroys of Peru & New Spain weren't colonies in the strict sense, but new societies composed of indigenous & iberian settlers. When one said spanish, he meant the conjuction of all these territories. (Although the Borbons in the late stage of the empire were starting to implement anglo-style policies to turn american territories into anglo-style colonies)


When we got independent, the Peninsula stuck with the name Spain, thus their lenguage is called spanish (it should be peninsular) while the different american nations named themselves Mexico, Peru, Colombia, etc

If there needs to be only one exclusive Spanish language dub wouldn't it make sense to use Latin American dubs since that's where most Spanish speakers are from

dubs are bad unless the dubs make sense for each character. When a white guy is talking it should be castillian when a shepherd or farmer talks it should be panchito or lower

Erm, acshually it's not a lisp because it only affects the letter C before I and E, and the letter Z. The S isn't pronounced as th.

The spanish dialect is alright when used in spanish media, but outside of that, the characters talking with a lisp makes the dub pretty grating and borderline unwatchable.

B-rated movies/series used something called neutral Spanish, which used second gen US Latinx for dubbing. It was horrible, since the translations were neither accurate for us or the people of S.A.

Our dubbing is targeted for our culture, dubbing for Latinamerica as a whole is harder and sometimes feels generic, since it addressing several countries which have different traits

Dude your dubs has an inexistent accent that relates to anyone (maybe a bit with mexicans or chicanos in the US) in the whole continent. Even in my head, it doesnt make sense how a Puerto Rican, a Cuban or an Argentine can defend such a terrible dub.

Im Brazilian myself and grew up here as a kid, and I think the Spanish dub is pretty good, there are series that actually improve with it. I love The Office's Spanish dub for example.

Brazilian dubs suck balls though, Jesus it's terrible. They are good in animations though, don't know why.

It's not like I heavily consume dubs for the most part but it works pretty well for a standarized localization for the most part. Our dialects and slangs (especially Caribbean Spanish) are mostly meme tier so I don't mind if the dub sounds a little stilted as long as they make it intelligible for a wide audience and provide good acting + accuracy

That's another funny thing. Its fckng AMAZING how movies and series cant get ONE fucking proper Spanish speaker, like 95% of them speak some weeeeeeeeeeeird broken Spanish.
Its fucking amazing for real, in a country with more Spanish speakers than Spain.
