I never said "they didn't want anything to do with the aztecs". Obviously they did. But it's not because they had a penchant for their sacrificial ways which is by the way only one of the aspects of such large civilization (the term civilization has a very euro-centric connotation today, you don't have to use it if you don't want to) and that is brought up today a lot as it has more shock value. That's why today people immediately think of the sacrifices when thinking about "aztec".

My point is that the independence war was commonly viewed as a revolutionary movement for the people which at that point was a crazy mixture of castes but still with a large indigenous representation. Obviously, the ones in charge of naming it were mostly white and criollo elites that needed to consolidate its power while maintaining popular cohesion and support. What better way of doing it than using the language of the largest "civilization" that had existed long time before the arrival of the spanish and that the people viewed as their identity?

Every country has psychos and bad actors, except that the german state for instance does neutralize the threat, and the mexican state doesnt, they let them roam free, the vast majority of people are normal.

El salvador proved that the only way to solve the crime problem is by extra judiciary methods, but our retarded president wants to make sure that there is a due process ( that criminals will avoid) and they recently killed a mayor for saying that the police should be able to shoot them.

I agree, our current administration is very non confrontational towards the cartels, and so was the past administration which belonged to the same party, 12 years in total, there havent been attempts to confront the cartels by way of the military since like 2006, i know thats the solution, the problem is that politicians are either bought out by the cartels or for whatever reason they can't/ they don't want to solve the problem and they also don't want to try out new strategies or get help from the u.s.
