Is indigenisn an attempt to fill the void left by the decline of catholicism?
Anonymous United States No.216720297 [Report]
Maybe in Mexican culture.
Dig deeper and you'll realize that Christianity and Native identity aren't really mutually exclusive.

I agree, I love the architecture especially and wish people still built like that today, it'd be better than the renaissance neoclassicism, like the Torre des Humanidades in Mexico City.

Nuño De Guzman was exceptionally cruel, he also tortured & killed castillians.

Most of the massacres of that time were not ethnic-based, as indigenista propaganda claims, but based on the stratum.

There was no hierarchy of "races" in the ancien regime. Society was hierarchized by stratums (estates). People like Nuño De Guzman belonged to the nobility (directly from Castille) that why he was able to carry massacres against lower stratum with impunity, but that was common also in Europe.

There's was no genocide or whatever nonsense indigenistas claim nowadays.

Race-based politics only became a thing with liberalism.

the hierarchy in the colonies was race based. It was colonialism that led to the creation of racial identities. Do you just come here to make the most blatant and off kilter lies or something?

>the hierarchy in the colonies was race based.

It wasnt at least not for the first two centuries. There are documents that show indian nobility punishing low stratum castillians. Nuño De Guzman himself executed lots of castillians alongside lots of indians.

Your jurisdiction mattered more than your skin color. Wealthy indians could live in the spanish republics while poor ameeican born whites would live in indian republics.

During the Borbons, there were attempts at racializing New Spain and implement a English-style colonization but it was not viable. Society was already too mixed.

> colonialism

New Spain was not a colony in the strict sense as settlers mixed with the indians and created a new society. I would say New Spain properly could be defined as a peripherical proto-kingdom.

How is that even relevant to qualify if a place is a colony or not you dumb motherfucker
American born people were banned from holding political power despite carrying the entire "empire" on their backs. It was a colony you fuck tard. You couldn't even ride a horse if you were not the descendant of people born in Europe
