what's the point of this thing? if its for a super thin laptop i get these tradeoffs but if you're just putting it on the desk why would you want this?

You can literally throw it into your luggage and play PC tier games without breaking a sweat. I use my laptop for both work/school/productivity AND games right now, if this is <$600 for the 2 TB version I have a PC to game and store vids/pics on

thats what steamdeck/frame are for, this is for a stationary machine.
>152 mm tall (148 mm without feet), 162.4 mm deep, 156 mm wide
ok so it IS small but get a miniitx board which is not much bigger and you can actually switch out ram, ssd, gpu, cpu

its not, commissioning a custom chip from amd is (vs using something like ryzen ai 300 like framework) is probably very expensive
Anonymous United States No.216739924 [Report]
Its basically all you'll ever need in terms of gaming needs. 2015 was the last good year for videogames.

Bloodborne was the last good game I ever played and that shit wasn't designed to be played at 4k. And if they remaster it it's going to be dog shit.

Same can be said with witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight.

I don't want VR and I don't want a handheld. If I bought an 'eck I'd keep it docked all the time anyways
If I built a PC it would be $2k because I want to have a current day dream PC that I don't need to upgrade for a decade +
Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money so this will have to do
Anonymous Serbia No.216740284 [Report]
Nope. Here it would probably cost way more than its actual worth because of import tariffs since we're not in the EU so at that point it's still better to just buy PC parts second hand and build your own machine with better specs

Who exactly is the target audience for this? Console players want something that will start playing gta 6 when they insert the disc. This toaster with its ancient hardware and unoptimised PC versions of games will choke trying to run any current gen game.

Mini PC's have their use case. For those that don't want to build their own, one common issue with them is that manufacturers drop firm/software support very quickly.

Having one that is supported by Steam, specifically for gaming, will be great for some people.

It’s being marketed as a video game machine. It’s got weaker hardware than a ps5 which was launched in 2020. And on top of that, there’s the performance penalty of running PC versions of games.

Sure, it can still be a decent machine (after discounts) for older/less demanding games, but that’s not a hot selling point.

Steam Deck did wii U tier numbers. There’s a small vocal minority that will eat up anything valve shits out, but I am highly skeptical about this prebuilt pc.

Valve can’t invest billions into R&D for custom APU designs a la sony and microsoft. They gotta pick cheap consumer grade parts and I doubt they’ll take a loss per unit.
