Real. There's still some good RPG Maker stuff coming out of Japan, you just need to hope there's an EN translation available. Most Western games feel like they come back around to being heavy-handed analogies for depression or loneliness.
Anonymous No.49170116 >>49172095

I'd argue there's some good stuff coming from the west too like Hello Charlotte and Grimm's Hollow but they don't even hold a candle to the Japanese games from around 2008-2014. Ironically it seems the scene is more alive in the west nowadays than it is in Japan.

She could have just been pretending to be a human to get their trust and kill them. You can't take any chances in a world like that; and the fact that mary wasn't up-front and honest about her not being a human from the art gallery really adds to the reasons why he would not trust her

How would you go about making a sequel to IB if you were the executive producer, Anon?

NTA, but the more I think about it, the less sense it makes. Ib has to be the protagonist or the game's title just wouldn't add up. You could toy with the idea that she went into the painting sometime in the past and simply lost her memories. But then, Mary would surely remember her, so that can't be it.
We know Guertena was obsessed with the girl in red, who was aparently based on someone he loved in life, so maybe making that someone Ib's mom could be more significant. The problem is, Mary would recognize her in the "Together Forever" ending, which also ruins the idea.

I wouldn’t say she’s two-faced. All she wants to do is leave the painted world, and the only way to do that is to replace a real person. Everything she does works towards that goal. She doesn’t see anything wrong with this because she grew up in painted world, which itself is very twisted and dog-eat-dog. Also note that Mary never lies to you. When you meet her, she says “I wanted to find a way out, but I got lost.” It’s Garry that jumps to the conclusion that she’s from outside.

This game was also extremely important to me as a kid growing up, it's what inspired me to become an artist and write the things that I imagine in my head. The gentle music, the creepy atmosphere, the charming characters, it's one of the best RPG maker gems. It was so simple but so great.
I miss when games like these came out, and when the fandom was so tight. At least the Yume Nikki community is still alive and thriving. I'll forever thank kouri for inspiring me.
