I have a theory that a lot of western vocaloid producers only listen to japanese music/japanese vocaloid and so their only experience with lyric writing comes from english translations and that's why too many make odd lyrical decisions that drag down the songs. The lyrics a lot of the time end up being a big reason why I don't enjoy the songs coming out of the English vocaloid community

I don't think it's hopeless to become a vocaloP on the English side, but there are a lot of genuinely terrible vocaloPs out there (and they also might have some mental disorder as well). I think the western sphere sees it as a gimmick, rather than a tool to actually create decent music. For example, my favorite producer — whoo — has complex instrumentals with a soft voice for Miku to help convey his emotions within his songs.

You don't have to understand Japanese, you gotta understand *why* and *how* a (probably Japanese) Vocaloid song makes you feel in a certain manner. I believe this principle applies to any musician. You just gotta understand the vibes.

In terms of criticism, a good bet is to share your drafts here, but shitposting is fairly bad recently, so take caution.

Songs about common themes like love, loss, nostalgia, hope, dreams, longing, despair, should be able to transcend language barriers. You may not grasp the entire meaning, but you can still have a handle on the theme.

Meiko in comparison obviously has a red outfit but she's a more neutral base that can easily swap outfits due to having a natural real-world human grown hair color.

Obviously Sakura Miku is cute and valid but those and any like them are obvious deviations from the norm of her iconic colors. When people see a beautiful pink Miku, they know it's an off-color model. With Meiko in a different outfit it's still just Meiko. For a Meiko to be a deviation from the norm she would have to have dyed hair or something otherwise it's just her in a different dress.

Likewise we'd have to see Kaito with different hair/eyes for him to be mistaken as something new or something else other than just Kaito regardless of what he wears.
