I just finished a sketchbook, so I thought the backdoor goddess would be a good fit for the final page. This is the second sketchbook I've finished in my entire life. The first took a year to complete, this one only took 6 months.

Drawing this turned out to be a miserable experience. I haven't really mentioned it, but the entire time I've actually been laying on the floor to do my drawings. Yesterday I set up a desk just for drawings, and tonight I tried it and found it to be only troublesome. It's an old beat up one, and I think it has a bent leg or something because it keeps jiggling against the wall when I put pressure on it. Because I put it on the edge of the room, the overhead light in the center cast my shadow onto the drawing and was very distracting. I tried getting a lamp, but it turned out to be broken. The experience was very frustrating and I mostly tried to just get it over with. At least the eyes came out cute.

At first I thought it was less spooky than you made it out to be. But just earlier I went to write the beginning date on my next notebook. The sharpie wasn’t coming out well so I spun it around over my head to get it to flow better, which is a trick I learned online. After I wrote the date, I looked at my hands to discover they were covered in ink.

It’s blue beeswax, moulded almost entirely by hand with the handle of a small brush used for a few indentations. I dug the stuff up from some old storage. I’ve actually done a bit of pewter casting before and wanted to figure out how to sculpt stuff to make moulds and castings from. So far I’ve only used other people’s moulds, the results of which you can see on both of Patchouli’s sides. But they’re a /tg/ topic, not a /jp/ one, so I haven’t posted them here.

You need PS version 21 or above, and good RAM because this thing eats eat like a hungry bodybuilder.
You need a wide image and then use the panorama tool.
When I started I used grid images like this to help me with perspective, I don't use them anymore since I got used to it.
The rest is grinding, work something cohesive first then add details later (use layers, direct paiting sucks)

i am a big fan of your work. i like the moe approach you're going for. please disregard my reply if you are not soliciting opinions on it.
the contrast of an oversized head the same width as the shoulders vs. a regular adult woman body with wide hips is giving off a bit of a bobblehead or midget effect to me rather than moe.
i think perhaps making the waist:hip ratio a bit less dramatic will give off a more "girlish" bishoujo look, if that is your goal. enlarging the eyes may help too.

I have been thinking about making a game in which you, a human, gets isekai'd into gensokyo. But due to the hostile nature of yokai, you have to fight for your life and kill plenty of 'hus.
Not necesarily a bullet hell, but could be something like old soul knight, or enter the gungeon...
What do you think? I really would love something like this, because it subverts the tired trope of "yokai kill and eat and torment humans" and now its the human's turn to destroy gensokyo

I saw a meme about how if you want to draw moe anime girls first you must learn to draw the entire detailed muscular and skeletal system of middle-aged men. Years ago I tried to learn anatomy from Wikipedia for this purpose, so I have an idea of what goes wear. I started to draw Sakuya starting at the bones as a way to kinda play with that idea, though since I’ve only drawn her bones and muscles so far it isn’t identifiable as her.

You know, part of me does feel like playing as a generic outsider self insert and going to gensokyo to murder all the 'hus is kinda edgy and not many touhou fans would like that, even if its with the purpose of "liberating humans from evil yokai"

I think so. I mainly use sounds from SC-88Pro and Edirol SD-90.
I don't try particularly to mimic their musical style, but ZUN and Jynx sure as hell inspired me to start. I only study their songs; because I started music-ing only 9 months ago. I need gain better basic skills before trying to mimic styles, I think.

A combination of a glass cutter and glass grinder. Glass breaks in a really specific way, so you kinda have to plan out your cuts. It can be a fun challenge!

I spent a while working at a stained glass workshop as part of a restoration project and it was always too busy to get a chance, but I always had fantasies of using the off-cuts and whatever wasn't needed to make a 2hu stained glass piece. Our colours weren't very vibrant though, so nothing ever really jumped out.
This looks really good just from the glass. Is it for copper foil or lead cames? I never really got to work with copper foil, but it seemed great for making more intricate designs.

It'll be the foil method. I've never tried lead or zinc came, though I know that stuff is the most consistent. You can afford to be a bit rougher on the edges with came, but with foil you've got to be really precise. I'm actually a bit nervous because I don't have much of the specialty glasses I used, so I've been grinding nonstop to try and salvage what I already cut. Though I may need to replace things. I really underestimated how much of an impact being a few mm off on each piece has on the whole piece as a whole. Kinda feels like I'm chasing my tail trying to get stuff to fit lol.

I bet even with unideal glass, you can still achieve good results, especially if you go the glass painting route!

I made a ring based on the colour themes of the Yakumos. Chen is in an orange sapphire (had issues with citrine and spessartite), Ran is in the closest-to-indigo-I-could-get sapphire, and Yukari is in an amethyst. Set in sterling silver naturally.
This one was very subtle and the person who got it has no idea of what went into the design, which is also why I hesitated a bit around posting it. My next bit of jewellery work will not be.

Not the anon doing the Youmu piece, but the other stained glass guy here. Glass blowers are something else, their skill is unreal. There's not a whole lot of glass shops in my country for coloured and textured glass, so when buying for private use I sometimes have to drive to a different city to find a specific sheet. At fhe workshop I worked at, we were ordering sheets of blue glass from the UK, Germany, and the US because it was so hard to find and consistently keep the right shades of blue in stock for the windows we were working on.
If they're using water, it's probably a pressure cutter. You wouldn't need that for stained glass, though. A glass cutter is like a little wheel that scores the sheet, and then you can just pop the pieces apart. It's a little finicky and if you don't keep the pressure up correctly when you score the glass, it won't break properly and you'll have to try again. If you're good, you can cut a huge number of tiny shapes out of a sheet of glass with a glass cutter just fine.

Some real fucking unique works in this thread, rare.

Those ones no as they're all half a carat or under. That was a mistake and a source of constant issues with getting an orange gem. As for starting it, it's not too difficult. Jeweller hobby clubs are all over the place and they run training sessions. After that practice is to get cheap transparent enough rocks or synthetic gems and cut them into standardised cuts, and work your way up to being confident to handle more risky pieces.
